Moyses Stevens - London

Cherry blossom heralds the coming of spring. In Japan, cherry blossom is called Sakura and is the national flower. The shape and colour of the petals are believed to reflect purity and simplicity.

Hanami is the Japanese custom of ‘observing the beauty of flowers’ and since the Heian period (794 - 1185) hanami has meant cherry blossom viewing. Today, in the spirit and tradition of hanami people gather in great numbers wherever cherry blossom is found, sometimes travelling vast distances.

Moyses Stevens and Rosa Nguyen combine their artistic knowledge of nature giving London its own cherry blossom viewing within a work of art.
